The Year 2008

After trying several different alternatives. I have decided to go with the back surgery. Surgery was scheduled I think it was July 7th. My surgeon's first surgery of the day. I forgot the name of the surgery but what he basically was going to do was try and remove the excess of the bulge from the disk (L5). The surgery was to last only 2-3 hours, I was in there for 4-5 hours. My Mom said when my surgeon came out to talk to her, he told her I am not sure it worked I am sorry. What surgeon says that to a Mother who has been waiting in the waiting room for her daughter during back surgery (or any surgery for that matter). Was in the hospital about 2-4 days then went home to my parents house to recover.

My surgeon told me that I could go back to work after 2 weeks. I actually stayed off work for about a month. The doc had me on Valium 2-3x/day, Neurontin 1600mg/day, and something else but can't remember the name (I will get back to you on that though). After being on the Valium for about 2 months it started making me extremely loopy and unable to do my job. My co-workers were afraid for me. I was finally told by my boss that I needed to go back on disability or I could lose my job if I stayed and worked. Went back out on disability for about 3 months. And of course I got myself of the Valium. What I don't understand why didn't anyone tell me that I was acting the way I was. Even my Mom noticed changes in me. Well its over with now.

Almost 4yrs ago

I decided to come back to Orange County as there were no jobs in Victorville. Plus I was starting to have pain in my upper right butt check (which I have now found out is called your piriformis muscle - muscle that is inside your hip bone).

I got lucky and got a job with a company I use to work with before and I am still working there.

But...The pain in my piriformis starting becoming more painful and all I could do is wait 3 months until my insurance kicked in to get any help (medical wise). Ugh!

As soon as my Medical kicked in I went and saw a doctor. First they said it was my piriformis, then bursitis, then my sciatica. It took them almost 3 months to realize I had a very large herniated disc. I kept asking for a MRI but they kept saying no lets do an X-Ray.  After trying several different options like physical therapy, chiropractic, decompression and a few others (can't remember). I decided on having surgery done. My herniated disc was 23cm, they said that is the largest they have seen in a long time. It wasn't just out to one side but all the way around.  The pain was becoming unbearable.
